Barnes earns NJAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
honors after helping to propel the Scarlet Raiders to their first victory
of the season - a 58-56 non-conference road win at CCNY. In the win, he
recorded 22 points, six rebounds, and three steals. With Newark trailing
43-35 in the second half, he reeled off nine unanswered points to give the
Raiders a 44-43 lead with 11:43 remaining. Later with CCNY leading 49-44,
he registered six consecutive points to put Newark back on top. With the
game on the line in the final seconds, he was able to draw a double-team
which freed up teammate David Cherry for the game-winning basket at the
buzzer. Barnes currently ranks third in the NJAC in three-point field
goals made per game (3.67). |

McDermott earns NJAC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the
Week honor after helping the Gothic Knights earn an 84-73 non-conference
road win at Briarcliffe in their only contest of the week. In the victory,
he registered 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field, while adding
eight rebounds. In 20 reserve minutes off the bench, he pulled down six
offensive rebounds, including a putback basket that sealed the Gothic
Knight victory by increasing their lead to 74-66 with just under two
minutes remaining. McDermott currently ranks third in the NJAC in
offensive rebounding (3.67 per game). |
